Listmates,
Today I heard from my daughter's new doctor, and an Xray confirmed that she
is developing some mild scoliosis, and they will have to watch this
carefully, as she is getting into puberty when accelerated growth can
apparently make this condition progress.
There are many old unabstracted articles showing an association between
scoliosis and abnormal urinary GAGs, but other articles that were new
enough to be abstracted made it appear that they had looked at ratios of
the different GAGs which were abnormal, but they did not apparently look
for changes in sulfation pattern. Other work has shown that abnormally low
sulfate levels can change the ratios of the different kinds of GAGs,
however. This failure to look at sulfation appears to be an unfortunate
hole in the scoliosis research where there are TONS of articles.
Last year I read a paper about hyper IgE syndrome. Scoliosis was a feature
in 76% of the cases of this syndrome after age 16, and high IgE is on Amy
Holmes's list of factors that may point to mercury toxicity. Scoliosis is
also seen in Rett Syndrome. My daughter doesn't have a diagnosis of either
syndrome, though her IgE is quite high (700's), but is not up in the thousands!
I also visited Amy Holmes's site today, and found that most of the markers
she lists for mercury toxicity have been found in my daughter in previous
testing (most when she was four...which was about five years ago.) I
imagine we have a familial problem with detoxication which probably made it
very easy for the mercury in her vaccines to stick around long enough to
bind places where it would stay put.
My daughter doesn't have autism, but did have developmental delays mainly
affecting her motor skills, but her immune system seems to be the biggest
problem right now, as she has very little resistence to viral infections,
and her NK cells are depressed and wimpy.
Does anyone else have a child getting close to puberty who has seen any
signs of scoliosis creeping in? There were a few articles in Medline on
autism and scoliosis, but mostly were about Retts. One article sounded
like it was written about a girl with congenital viral infection, as she
was deaf, partially blind, mentally retarded, and had autism and required
surgery for scoliosis. Right after her surgery, this child's menarche
started, and two years worth of therapy improvement disappeared as her self
stimming behaviors came back in full force. ML #84021214
I'm just hoping if we start chelation therapy soon, that we'll see some
changes in the IgE and hopefully an arrest of this curvature of the spine.
Amy, if you are listening, have you or has anyone else seen the IgE come
down after chelation?
Thanks!
Susan
