How do you use Lipoic Acid with a 3-1/2 yr old?
By administering it orally every 3 hours starting one morning and working
through the next 3 days (and 2 intervening nights). You can give it with
DMSA if you want - that seems to make it work better. But if you just use LA
it does work reasonably well.
Is it an Rx?
It is an over the counter nutritional supplement. If you want to use DMSA
with it, DMSA is Rx.
Powder?
There are some brands in capsules and you can cut the capsules open to get
powder, or you can crush tablets.
Liquid?
I've never tried to dissolve it so I don't know how well that works. Get
some and experiment - it isn't all that expensive so you can afford to skrag
a few caps or tabs seeing how they go into juice, applesauce, etc.
What is the dosage? and/or treatment protocol...?
Treatment protocol as above. Start with 1/4 mg per pound of kid. A few side
effects are to be expected, but if they are distinct and noticeable, then
reduce the dose to 1/8 mg per pound. You give it for 3 days (and the
intervening nights) and then skip at least 3 or 4 days and repeat. You
should see significant improvement after a dozen cycles. It may take 30-100
cycles to really clear the mercury out. I suggest keeping it up until you
are really sure all the mercury is gone. If you don't see any improvement
after 12 cycles then it isn't working and you need to decide what else to do.
