As it was explained to me, creatinine is a bi-product of protein digestion
and a good indicator of how your kidneys are working. >>

It was explained wrong then. Creatinine levels in SERUM indicate kidney
function. Creatinine in a 24 hour collection indicates whether it was done
properly and handled right - for women and children you get about 0.1 mg of
creatinine per 24 hours per 10# of person (ideal weight - muscle makes
creatinine, fat doesn't).

If you are experiencing protein malnutrition it is reduced somewhat, but the
most likely explanation for low creatinine is improper sample handling.

The range is for everyone from 1 year olds to 17 year olds - you need to
figure the number for your kid (or yourself) as above. There are tables in
the appendix of my book for adults if any of you are doing your own tests.
