<< Are there any good questions I need to ask a dentist to determine wether
or
not they know how to properly remove mercury fillings?

First, do they USE amalgam? If not, you are in good shape.

If so, then ask do they use a dam and give you a nosepiece to breathe
through while they remove the amalgams.

How do I know if they
are indeed mercury? >>

If they are metallic (black and corroded by now, silvery shiny when they
went in) they are 50% mercury in the form of dental amalgam. 50% mercury,
30% sliver, 20% tin approximately. The formula varies but it is always
close to 50% mercury.
