Andy,
Both of my children have turned up with lots of lead in their blood.
What
are calcium transport mechanisms?

Your body has a bunch of proteins to move calcium around between
cells, and inside cells.

We are currently using DMSA.

If ALA doesn't chelate lead and DMSA doesn't cross the blood

barrier, what can be done to remove lead from the brain?

I believe the lead slowly comes out on its own (based on only
modest
evidence) by using the calcium transport mechanisms. I don't
believe
it ends up trapped in the brain like mercury.

I sent this info to "Dad", the person whose lead chelation story
is on
my site.

http://www.autismchannel.net/dana/cheltest.htm

He started with Chemet, then added ALA. He has done I think two
rounds now with both Chemet and ALA, altho I think only one round
is
included so far on my site. His son developed a tremendous amount
of
language after adding the ALA, but it did not seem to affect the
lead
levels. Anyway he sent me this message to post here.

My boy tested high for lead in '99. He got his from paint chips,
PICA (dirt in our back yard), and from mouthing toys which had
lead
in either the paint or the metal. We went thru 4 rounds of
chelation
using DMSA and following the standard lead chelation protocol
(DMSA 3
x's daily for 5 days, then twice daily for two weeks). Each time
we
saw inprovements and also saw his lead level drop about 4 points
after rebound.

After a year of discussion about thimerosal/amalgam exposure in
autistic children, we decided to add ALA to the DMSA with round 5.
Doing this caused an even more dramatic improvement in him.
However,
we did not take a single point of lead out of him. I do not know
if
this is because the ALA does not allow the DMSA to bind to lead,
or
whether we are just down to the most difficult lead to reach.

We are currently in round 6, again using the merc protocol (DMSA &
ALA every 4 hours). Again we have seen an amazing burst of
improvement during the actual medication process (when we followed
the lead protocol the gains we saw came after we had stopped).

Dad
