If you are mercury toxic, and or have silver amalgams in your mouth, is it wise to eat chlorella powder?

As others mentioned, chlorella has single thiol groups, so is not a true chelator. (A true chelator has two thiol groups that hold onto the metal more tightly). The single thiols in chlorella hold mercury weakly and drag itaround making some people feel much sicker.

The other thing with chlorella is that because it is grown in aquatic environments, and there is no good quality control, it can be a source of mercury or other heavy metals. One good example was when someone was making claims about increased mercury in urine after ingestion of chlorella, Boyd Haley asked for a sample and found that the level of mercury in the chlorella was very high, so no wonder some was found in urine. There have also been cases of people using chlorella and ending up poisoned with some other toxin(that did not show up on testing before).
Apparently, chlorella has a chelation effect on mercury in the body when eaten. However, I thought I heard Andy Cutler say that cillantro was a bad idea, due to unknown chelation effects or something.
Cilantro IS a bad idea. Cilantro does have some component(s) that mobilizes mercury and can move it across the BBB, but no one knows anything about these components or how to use them properly, so chances are very high that it will move mercury INTO the brain. There are many, many reports of serious worsening with cilantro.
Basically, I get the idea that Cutler is saying that if you chelate wrong, you can make things worse,
right.

Linda
so, if I consume chlorella powder, would this amount to chelating in an incorrect, dangerous way?

BTW, for several months recently, I was consuming large amounts of chlorella.
